Drug addiction & Recovery

Addiction, first of all, is a sort of brain relapsing disease that tends to alter your brain chemistry and behavior. It is like a sensation that makes you become physically and psychologically dependent on the substance be it any drugs or alcohol.

What is drug addiction?

Addiction further can be based on substance use: like drug addiction, alcohol addiction, Opioids/Narcotics addiction, stimulant addiction, benzodiazepine addiction, barbiturate addiction, etc.

Now, back to drug addiction, it is not just about the intake of cocaine, heroin, or other such toxins as we call it. It tends to lead the addict to other illicit substances.

People tend to get drawn towards the abuse of drugs because of the way they make them feel. Every start that one does thinking about how they can control & influence themselves in limiting the intake and the frequency of intake goes in vain. The sensation makes you addicted to it to such an extent that, over time, they simply influence and change how your brain works.

Drug addiction is that sort of state when one can’t resist but use drugs regardless of their other important works. It is a stage where the urge to get and use drugs never stops as the brain gets flooded with this chemical called “Dopamine” which tends to trigger the euphoria of pleasure.

The craving for further pleasure drives the addicts continuously towards the drugs as they tend to not find that extent of pleasure in their other works.

How can they be treated?

It’s difficult to quit on their own when the drug has taken its control over the addicts. There comes a stage of external dependency for their cure.

So, the most effective approach in such cases would be to look for rehabilitation centers as they tend to offer structured programs based on the level of addiction, the state of the addict, etc. Take as an example the Unity Behavioral Health, a drug & alcohol rehabilitation center, wherein they offer comprehensive treatment with evidence-based modalities.

These rehab centers like Universal Behavioral Health, with their highly trained and multidisciplinary professionals, employ structured programs for respective individuals to recover them keeping in mind the long-term success.
